"Scripture Use Assistant" Intern Program

Come and experience Papua New Guinea, The Land of the Unexpected for a twelve to twenty-four month assignment as a "Scripture Use Assistant" with PNG-SALT.

Your assignment will begin with the Pacific Orientation Course (POC) near Madang, Papua New Guinea.

At POC you will receive training in cross-cultural sensitivity and village living; and you will begin to learn Melanesian Tok Pisin, the trade language of Papua New Guinea.

After POC you will travel to Ukarumpa, in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Ukarumpa is situated 5,100 feet above sea level and is SIL PNG's main Bible Translation Center.

In Ukarumpa you will attend a S.A.L.T. orientation course where you will study S.A.L.T. course curriculum and leadership training principles.

After completing S.A.L.T. orientation, you will help teach and/or facilitate S.A.L.T. courses in various villages; and you will work alongside Bible translators, literacy workers, local pastors and village leaders to impact the nation of Papua New Guinea with the translated Scriptures.

Generally, the S.A.L.T. team will live in the village for three weeks (this includes travel time and course setup) and will return to Ukarumpa for rest, relaxation and preparation before heading out on the next S.A.L.T. course.
